A balcony awning provides targeted shade and can improve privacy on exposed outdoor areas. WAREMA awnings are made to measure and available in different designs, fabrics, colours and operating options.
An awning for a balcony provides flexible overhead shade and can be planned to suit the available space. Depending on the installation situation, a folding-arm awning, cassette awning, pergola awning or retractable side awning may be appropriate.
Compare the available balcony awning types, then discuss dimensions, fixing options and operation with a WAREMA specialist retailer.

These balcony awnings are available as open or semi-open folding-arm awnings and as fully enclosed cassette awnings. The appropriate design depends on the installation position, required fabric protection, balcony size and preferred operation.
WAREMA Terrea patio awnings are suitable for many balconies because they provide overhead shade without front posts. The view remains largely unobstructed. The appropriate version depends on the installation position, exposure and balcony dimensions:
- Open folding-arm awnings: These models have no enclosing cassette, so the retracted fabric remains visible. They are generally suited to sheltered installation positions and can also be integrated into a prepared façade recess.
- Semi-open folding-arm awnings: This design provides additional protection for the retracted fabric through an integrated cover.
- Cassette awnings: When retracted, the fabric and folding arms are enclosed in the cassette. Compact and larger models are available for different balcony dimensions and installation situations.
The electric Terrea 700S is an electrically operated open folding-arm balcony awning designed for integration into an on-site façade shaft. It is intended primarily for new-build projects and extensive façade renovations.
When retracted, the system is concealed in the on-site shaft. A project-specific cover panel can be added where required, while the shaft helps protect the fabric and folding arms when the awning is closed.
A pergola awning provides stable, post-supported sun shading for larger balconies. Depending on the model and configuration, additional options such as lighting, sensors or lateral screening can be included.
A Perea pergola awning is suitable for larger balconies where a post-supported system and increased stability are required. The permissible use in wind and rain depends on the selected model, fabric, installation and operating instructions.
The posts define the shaded area clearly and support larger projections. Depending on the model, vertical screens and other equipment options can be integrated for additional lateral protection.
A retractable side awning provides lateral screening from low-angle sunlight, light wind and unwanted views. It can be extended when required and stored compactly in the cassette after use.
A retractable balcony side awning complements overhead sun shading by providing lateral screening from low-angle sunlight, light wind and unwanted views.
The fabric is pulled out horizontally and stored in the cassette when not in use. Straight and sloping fabric lines allow the side awning to be coordinated with the balcony layout and existing awning.
Depending on the model, balcony awnings can be equipped with motorised controls, sensors, integrated LED lighting, patio heaters and a drop valance for additional frontal shade and privacy.
An integrated drop valance extends the awning fabric vertically at the front. It is particularly useful when the sun is low and can provide additional privacy, depending on the selected fabric. Key features include:
- additional glare control when the sun is low
- increased privacy from opposite buildings or neighbouring balconies
- outward visibility depending on the selected fabric
- operation by crank or motor, depending on the model
